If you’re here, then you probably already know that Dizzy Hearts is an OLEVN. And an Eroge.

Dizzy Hearts is set in an unamed world, with races that are similar, but different from typical fantasy races. I have always been a fan of fantasy both in games and literature. I chose to try and attempt making a VN, mostly because I have no experience doing so. And I am always interested in doing different things, and challenging myself. The goal then I guess, is to become more experienced, tell a story and not only make me happy, but hopefuly others as well. 

The reason why I chose not to set Dizzy Hearts in a world that already exists, is mostly the subject matter. Even if I explained away the Dark Elves, there would be preconceptions on how the race my think and act. There would need to be much more world building in terms of clans, houses, etc to make it feel authentic to that world. The history of this VN is not important, except when it pertains directly with the cast. 

About

The VN itself is set in a world where only one side of the world faces the sun. Making that side of the world hot and arid. And the other side dark, humid and semi-tropical. Where most of the heat is transferred by weather and moonlight. 

It is about a house of Dark Elves, who belong to the same clan, but not the same family. In a city occupied by other rival clans. Each clan has it’s own queen, who governs the city with the other ruling clans. Wary of outsiders due to a unique nature about how the race reproduces. One in every one hundred women of the race is born Hermaphroditic. Because of this, those who are known as Fiore are often given high value in society, and high responsibilities. Families rise to power as ruling clans based on a lineage of Fiore ancestors, and a likelihood for their heirs to be born the same way. The highest positions in society are often reserved for Fiore except under rare circumstances where non-Fiore have proven themselves and their worth. That is not to say that Fiore are rewarded for performing their duties wrongly. Because much of society pressures them to fulfill their status as Fiore, which has cultural, religious and physical significance to the Dark Elven people. Especially in terms of sex, where they are encouraged to bring as many heirs to their family as possible, and have many wives.

The priesthood however is also very symbolically important to the Dark Elven people.  Guiding the people religiously, the priesthood is without any exception entirely female. The priesthood not only serves their people but also their Goddess, Lloth. Who is strongly held to be the first Fiore, and the progenitor for their race. The Priesthood are essentially concubines of Lloth but spiritually and politically. It is because of this bond that it is forbidden for Priests to have any relation with any other Fiore. Priests are not forbidden from relationships altogether. And it is not uncommon for women in this society to have a wife of their own. Which is normal. However the Priests often have many wives.

Characters

- Seriva

Seriva is a human from her own country on the desert-like side of her world. Her countries cities all mostly underground where it is not only livable, but where plants can grow, and where water collects in vast underground lakes. When a man or women reaches the age of adulthood it’s often considered their duty to serve in the economy or politics of their cities, or to leave, and explore the world. That way, when they return they bring information back to the isolated country about what they’ve seen, and learned. Seriva, like her people, is naive to the world, and customs outside her village. Not one for becoming a baker, a farmer or a politician, she leaves to explore. To sate a thirst to learn more.

She ends up in a Dark Elf city after a long journey across the world. While open to visitors, they are highly suspicious of newcomers, and keep them at an arms length. Foreigners are only allowed in the center of the city, away from the territory of the ruling clans. It is there that Seriva ends up meeting Mercilia. Her bodyguard Nail, and Aunyrae. Who is both a priestess, and the princess’ advisor.

- Mercilia

Mercilia is the Princess of her clan, and is second in line to succeed her mother, the queen. Young by Dark Elf standards she is roughly the same physical age as Seriva. She is burdened by having to become the Queen after her mother steps down, and as such she is often being groomed by officials within her clan, and most of all, her personal bodyguard Nail, and her clan’s priestess, Aunyrae. Each of whom are often pressuring Mercilia to take the matter more seriously.

Mercilia herself comes off as snippy, cold, or rude due to the stress she is under to succeed her mother. Both in position and in status. To fulfill her duties as Fiore and as Queen. For most of her life, it is all she has no. Making her jealous of those who have had much simpler, easy going lives. 

- Aunyrae

Aunyrae is the Head Priestess for her clan, of which there are four. And under her there are lesser priestesses, some of which are her wives. Even for a Dark Elf, she is known to be rather lascivious. Where most of the priesthood, including rival clans, have many wives. Aunyrae herself has fourteen wives. Granting her notoriety in gossip circles for her girl lust. Though salacious and perverted, she does not betray her wives, and should she feel the desire to pursue prey again. She does not do so without their consent. Often used to this kind of behavior.

A font of sexual energy, which is often regarded as a desirable trait in her society. So long as it is no destructive to society or oneself. She is known to be very honest. This makes her adept at providing spiritual advice to the Princess in how to best succeed as Queen. Much to Mercilia’s annoyance, who will often avoid or hide from Aunyrae before she can lecture the young elf. 

- Irraere

Irraere is the Chief Thaumaturgist of her clan. Much like a alchemist, a doctor, or a mage (which is much the same thing in Dark Elven culture). She is responsible for the health of her clan. She often resides in the Ward, and rarely leaves. When she does she is often seen as aloof, lost in thought or lethargic. Acting more like a hermit of sorts, which befitting her status is often to the annoyance of the rest of her clan. Favoring old, and strange home remedies to cure any bugs or viruses. She can seem a bit scary, or crazy to others, as they wonder what she does in the Ward at all hours of the night.

Irraere is also a Fiore, and fairly well into adulthood, and as such she must fulfill her duties as one. Despite this she often shirks these duties. Choosing to isolate herself. Many years prior to the story, Irraere lost her right eye in an accident within the Ward. Ever since then, others say she has become a different person. Now completely disinterested in having wives. Or in fulfilling her duties as Fiore to have children. Between her and Aunyrae the air is tense. Should they rarely meet, Aunyrae is quick to remind Irraere of this fact before quickly leaving.

- Nail

Nail is Mercilia’s personal bodyguard, and whenever the Princess leaves the Clan’s house, Nail accompanies the Princess. In addition to this, Nail acts as personal confidant to the Princess. Protecting her physically and politically as she instructs Mercilia in the duties she must accomplish once she becomes queen. Unlike Aunyrae, Mercilia does not attempt to avoid Nail. But she is often bothered, or annoyed by her attempt to follow her in the presence of strangers. Quiet and impassive, she often only has to leer at others in order to make them uneasy in her presence.

As is customary in her society. Nail hides her identity and her face, and forsakes her family name, tying allegiance only to her clan. In this way she is able to protect her charge without endangering her own family who might be targeted in effort to attack Nail indirectly.

Conclusion

This is not the end. There is still much more to learn about each of these characters. This is of course, not a harem game. Each of the four characters have their own paths. You will follow their story, learn about who they are and as you (as the MC) learn more about each character. You get to discover what secrets they might be hiding. And how to help them as you grow closer together!
